Don’t make another move.  If your pregnancy test is positive, there are 3 critical things you need to know.

1. POSITIVE might not mean PREGNANT.

Have you taken a home pregnancy test?  Did it say positive?  You still need a doctor to confirm a viable, intrauterine pregnancy.  (This means the fetus is implanted in the uterus, not the fallopian tubes and has a heartbeat.)  Just because a pregnancy test is positive, doesn’t mean the pregnancy is healthy.  About 1 out of every 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

At ComfortCare, women receive a complimentary ultrasound to confirm that the pregnancy is located where it needs to be and that the fetus has a heart beat.  The ultrasound can also determine how far along the pregnancy is.  For a listing of all ComfortCare services, click Home above.

Medical information is power.

2.  STD means STOP.

Have you been tested for an STD?  Even if you’ve only had one partner, there is a risk that you could carry a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD).  STD’s affect any pregnancy decision.  For example, a woman who has Chlamydia at the time of an abortion has a 25% chance of contracting PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) within 4 weeks of the procedure.  PID is dangerous because it can cause damage to the effected reproductive organs.  If left untreated, it can escalate into lifelong medical complications.

If a woman decides to carry to term, untreated STD’s can be transferred to the baby during delivery.  All women should be tested for STD’s regardless of their pregnancy decision.  At ComfortCare limited STD testing is conducted without charge and referrals for comprehensive testing can be made.  You can make an appointment today for STD testing.

Education is freedom.

3.  There are OPTIONS.

When you’re staring at a positive pregnancy test, it can seem like all options are gone.  It can feel overwhelming.  But you are strong.  With the right medical information and non-judgmental support, you can make the best decision for you.
